Summer Sewing

8/26/07

WOW! Summer is over.  Teacher workday is tomorrow and school starts after labor day.  I spent most of the summer sewing for other people.  I made swim team bathing suits for the boys and racing suits for Sarah and three of the neighbor girls.   I don’t have any pictures of the boys suits but I made Jammers from Kwik Sew 2889.  That project took most of June since I also had a week of running the steam engine at a show and a week with the youth in June.

I am not sure what I got done in the line of sewing in July.  We had the season ending swim meet and then vacation.  Oh yes! I remember, I made a pair of sweatshirt fleece gouchoes for myself.  They are very comfortable.  Sorry no pictures of those either.

I also made a pair of gouchoes to go with a friends dd’s fair project.  Sorry no pictures of this either.

August was more productive.  I had a friend ask me to make her daughters outfits for sheep showing at the county fair.  The girls have to wear wool when they show their sheep.  I made gouchoes to go with a jacket that the oldest girl already had.   I made a bib overall jumper for the littlest one.  I love the embroidery on it.  Lindsey’s dress turned out beautiful!  My friend really loved all of it.

PANTS that FIT!

I decided to try a pair of Ottobre pants to see how they would fit me.  I have often tried to size things up then get them too big and have to take bunches of fabric out.  They never end up fitting well at all.  So I looked at some European sizing information and went with a size smaller then my measurements but in line with the size that I taper shirts to when I make them from Ottobre patterns.  I started to make these pants and got them to a point where I could slide them on without the waistband.  OH MY these pants sure didn’t look like they were going to fit.  In fact I was pretty sure I would need to make a HB (huge butt) adjustment.  Well I wanted to finish the pants because I hate to leave things unfinished when it comes to sewing, so I finished them as directed.  Didn’t change a thing.  I don’t know how or why but with the waistband on they fit perfect!  I am so happy.  Now I know what size pants and skirts to make from Ottobre design just in time for the new Women’s issue.

I wanted to make a shirt to wear with these new capris so I made the Khaliah Ali collection shirt that I have had the pattern for most of the summer.  The shirt is very o comfortable and different from just wearing a t-shirt.  Dressy enough to wear to school.  This will be a great beginning of school … it is still 90 degrees out … outfit.

Next project.  Walking shorts or Bermuda shorts using the Ottobre pant as a base to start with.
